Im not too concerned about strength honestly. I especially disagree that division 128 would stomp - when you get below the top 5 or 6 it tanks in strength, especially now that Half-Life has gone off a cliff. I would take Breath of the Wild over every one of those games, and possibly Smash Ultimate too. If you comprised a top ten of that and the last decade I think it would be fairly balanced.

There is also something critical to keep in mind here too, which is that the second half of this decade is substantially stronger than the first. An overwhelming majority of those games were either not in the last contest or would have gained significantly. Also GOTD1 had the highest floor of any contest, and I think that could be replicated here though obviously that was helped by vote-ins. But I can see this contest having both a higher high and low than GOTD1 in terms of strength.

No 3D Land is a different game if thats what you mean. Very different also, Nintendo ballsed up the marketing for 3D World. But at least it outsold Sunshine in the end!

This is a great fourpack, well done.

The only thing I feel confident about is KH3 being the weakest. 3D World may have disappointed at GOTY but it also got heavily SFFd, so I wouldnt worry too much about that. I think New Vegas squeaks past it and Xenoblade. Fallout is definitely a top 10 series on GameFAQs and though it has declined thanks to Bethesdas recent shenanigans, New Vegas would be the most impervious to that.

Whatevs regarding FF7, its a month delay. It is funny how March went from insanely stacked to kind of empty now though, and April seems stacked with this, RE3 and Cyberpunk.

Avengers though, that game is in trouble.

GameFAQs likes Red Dead, it just isnt at the very top tier.

And what happened to Mass Effect is very different to those other series. Fallout released an unbelievably bad side game and Bethesda have fallen a lot in peoples estimations, but the core games are still well regarded. MGS slowly faded. Pokmon released one controversial game, controversial because of how much would still love those older games. Only Final Fantasy really compares, easily the biggest fall from grace since Sonic. With Mass Effect though they had already in the eyes of many cheapened the previous games with the ending, then they had a disastrous main game, THEN they publicly buried the series, all set to Biowares reputation crumbling. At least with Final Fantasy it was a long time coming.

Also dont underestimate Skyward Sword. Disappointment or no its still a well-received console Zelda.

Hollow Knight got absolutely destroyed by Cuphead in 2017. Now it is true that the game had an odd staged release and was really helped by the Switch version. But 2017 Cuphead did significantly better on Breath of the Wild than 2018 Hollow Knight did on Smash Ultimate. Hollow Knight definitely seems like a game that will build strength over time but that mountain seems too high to climb.

Also Cuphead quadrupling Resident Evil 7 may be the best thing thats happened in any poll.

Overall a solid list I cant complain too much about. It is disappointing that Knives Out missed out on Best Picture, I would definitely swap Ford v. Ferrari for it, but at least it got screenplay. Apollo 11 missing documentary is odd - was it not eligible? Also glad Ad Astra did not get shut out, it not even getting onto the visual effects shortlist was a shame.

Its not an argument against Shovel Knight as much as arguments for other games. I am thinking Cuphead, which looked really good in the GOTY polls that year (with Undertale I believe the only indie to win a platform poll) and would have only gotten stronger with the Switch release. The character also overperformed in the last character battle though was really underseeded.

Which MGS games does this apply to other than MGS4? 1, 2 and 3 are still well liked. MGS5 was never well liked.

V had a ton of hype behind it when it released. A lot of people were calling it game of the year or the best game ever. The disappointment didnt come until later. Peace Walker got the same thing but made less noise due to being on the PSP. 2 also but it was later vindicated. Only 1 and 3 escaped.

Well in that same poll we saw Fallout 3 stay the same. I think thats MGS4s fault not anything else. MGS fans seem a bit like pre-BOTW Zelda fans in that they always turn on the last game in the series after a while. And as someone who hated MGS4 I cant complain there!

I feel as a well received reboot God of War will build strength or stay the same unless the next game either falls off a cliff or totally obsoletes it. Ultimate will probably see similar strength to that poll until the next one, but wont go higher.

Smash Ultimate got 54% on God of War in the honeymoon period. Now God of War has historically been a strong franchise on GameFAQs and this new one should be the strongest of all of them so thats no indictment of Ultimate. Can I see Witcher 3 and Skyrim as stronger than that though? Yes. Smash Ultimate is probably still the favourite but its not invincible by any stretch.

I think 2019 games specifically will suffer just like 2009 games did, but other than that I agree with Leon. With that said I cant see too many games making it from this last year anyway. RE2 and Three Houses should get in and do very well, but beyond that I think the games need more time. It was a very good year for original games but those games generally need longer to make their mark. In a future contest I can see say, Disco Elysium doing very well, but not this time.

I definitely dont think its like last time where the proxy for the previous decade wins it all. From polls it seems that GameFAQs regards the 00s and the 10s fairly similarly so that aspect of it shouldnt be an issue. In fact in terms of strength Id say 2015-2019 probably beats 2010-2014. It has BOTW, Witcher 3, Mario Odyssey, God of War, Nier Automata, Undertale and more.

Has Sekiro had a mixed GameFAQs reception? It seems like it is fairly strong, probably above KH3 now, and may have gotten stronger. Also I'm just playing it now and can't believe I let this one slip by, great game.

Regarding the main thrust if the topic, remakes are doing well because these specific remakes, especially RE2, are functionally new games (or in the case of DQ, the game that should have been the original release). In the remake/remaster poll how much the game felt new was directly proportional to strength.

Regarding GOTY this year, Nintendo's slate is a mystery but there is a very real chance that BOTW2 comes out this year. Of announced games I would not be shocked to see The Last of Us Part 2 beat FF7, it depends on the reception.

Right off the bat I would say Persona 5 is the weakest by a reasonable distance. Dark Souls and The Witcher 3 both looked great in 2015, and can expect to have only gotten stronger, especially The Witcher. God of War looked incredible in the 2018 polls and that series has always been strong on here - I think people forget how strong it has been. The original was probably a top ten game in the last GotD.

i went The Witcher 3>Dark Souls, I expect it to beat God of War largely because I think it is definitely a top 5 game of the last decade.

Also on the subject of Links Awakening and whether it should qualify for GotD as a remake, it is a ground-up new game with changes but using the old design. It is both a new game and a remake. RE2 on the other hand is so new it is barely even a remake - it is almost a reimagining.
